6/5/23-6/11/23: Week One of The Jester’s Puzzler

Week 1 Jester Quiz

  1. (5 pts.): Name this President.

I was a Democratic-Republican from Virginia who served as President from 1809 to 1817.

I was the primary author of the “Virginia Plan” – the draft of what would become the U.S. Constitution.  I was also instrumental in ensuring the Bill of Rights was ratified.

I was a strong advocate for religious liberty who believed in a strong federal government that was held in check by the separation of powers into three branches – executive, legislative, and judicial.

I was one of three authors of the Federalist Papers – a series of 85 essays written between October 1787 and May 1788 arguing for the ratification of the Constitution.  These essays were published under the pen name “Publius” in various New York newspapers.  The other two authors were John Jay and Alexander Hamilton.

      8. 1787 was the year it was approved by the delegates to the Constitutional Convention, but was not adopted by the states until 1788. Sorry for the poorly worded question, should have been clearer and used “adopted by the states” and not just “adopted”
      9. Incorrect. 1 for each senator (100), one for each representative (435), and 3 for DC as a result of the 23rd Amendment for a total of 538.
      10. Correct.
In fairness I have to say 8 was correct, so only 2 incorrect – 6 and 9 for 20 points, highest score yet! Congrats!
