Week Two Jester Quiz

WEEK 2 JESTER QUIZ

  1. Name this President (5 pts).

I was a Democrat from Texas who served as JFK’s Vice-President and became President upon JFK’s death.  I served in that position from 1963 to 1969.

I convinced Congress to enact several programs, including Medicare, Head Start, the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act, all of which have had a lasting impact on American society.

Despite my achievements, I would not be able to overcome my failure to lead the nation out of the Vietnam War.

In 1967 I nominated Thurgood Marshall, a civil rights lawyer and great-grandson of a slave to the Supreme Court.  Upon his confirmation Justice Marshall became the first African-American to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.
