Democrats Plunge Colorado into Darkness: Xcel Blackouts Expose Radical Green Agenda’s War on Reliable Energy

The Democrat War on Colorado’s Energy Independence: Blackouts Today, Total Control Tomorrow

On December 17, 2025, Xcel Energy deliberately plunged nearly 100,000 Colorado homes and businesses into freezing darkness. Over 52,000 customers faced planned Public Safety Power Shutoffs, while wind related damage added tens of thousands more to the outage tally. Winds gusted up to 96 miles per hour, but the real culprit was not the weather. It was the fragile, unreliable grid that Democrats have deliberately engineered through years of radical, anti energy policies. Families shivered without heat. Seniors risked medical emergencies as life sustaining devices failed. Schools closed. Roads became treacherous. All because Democrats despise reliable power and want citizens dependent on their whims.

Democrats hate freedom. They despise the idea of Coloradans controlling their own lives with affordable, dispatchable energy from coal, natural gas, or even simple wood stoves. No, these power hungry authoritarians demand everything run on electricity, so they can flip the switch whenever it suits their green delusions or political agendas. This shutoff was no accident. It was the direct result of Democrat mandates forcing the premature retirement of baseload power plants and the reckless buildup of intermittent wind and solar that collapse when stressed don’t come close to offsetting the carbon needed to build them in the first place.

Since seizing total control of state government, Democrats have waged unrelenting war on reliable energy. They rammed through renewable portfolio standards demanding massive shifts to weather dependent sources. Xcel’s Clean Energy Plan, rubber-stamped by Democrat appointees on the Public Utilities Commission, commits to slashing emissions while piling on thousands of megawatts of wind turbines and solar panels. These toys generate power only when nature cooperates, leaving the grid vulnerable. High winds threaten fires from downed lines, so Democrats’ fragile system forces preemptive blackouts. Calm days mean no wind power. Cloudy days kill solar. Nightfall ends production entirely. Democrats knew this. They ignored experts warning of instability. They pressed on because control, not reliability, is their goal.

Democrats masquerade this as safety. They claim shutoffs prevent wildfires, pointing to the Marshall Fire where an Xcel line played a role. Yet their policies make fires more likely by weakening the grid and retiring plants that provide steady power. Baseless power is gone, replaced by fickle renewables. When winds howl, as on December 17, the system teeters. Democrats’ answer? Punish citizens by cutting power. In Boulder County alone, thousands froze. Businesses lost revenue. Patients scrambled for alternatives. This is not protection. This is punishment for daring to live in a state ruled by Democrat tyrants.

The human toll exposes Democrat cruelty. Temperatures dipped in winter, yet families huddled under blankets. Elderly residents faced hypothermia risks. Medical devices powered by electricity failed. Democrats caused this suffering. Their obsession with banning fossil fuels left no fallback. No robust coal or gas plants to stabilize the grid. Just reliance on wind that blows too hard or not at all.

And Democrats are not done. They salivate at the prospect of extending control deeper into homes. Natural gas, the reliable heating source for about 70 percent of Colorado households, is next on their hit list. Through the Clean Heat Act passed in 2021 under Democrat dominance, they force gas utilities to slash emissions dramatically. The Public Utilities Commission, packed with Democrat loyalists, just finalized rules mandating 41 percent reductions by 2035 from 2015 levels, with an implied path to 100 percent decarbonization by 2050. This means phasing out natural gas for heating, cooking, and hot water.

Democrats loathe natural gas because it empowers independence. It burns cleanly, affordably, and reliably, even during blackouts. No need for the electric grid Democrats control. So they target it viciously. Utilities like Xcel must push electrification, offering rebates funded by ratepayers to rip out gas furnaces and install electric heat pumps. These pumps fail in extreme cold, drawing enormous power and worsening grid strain. Costs soar. Bills projected to rise 30 percent to 50 percent or more. Low-income families suffer most, but Democrats do not care. They virtue signal while forcing poverty.

This is forced conversion. No bans on existing appliances yet, but incentives turn coercive through escalating targets. Utilities beg for rate hikes to fund billions in transitions. The Public Utilities Commission approves, passing burdens to citizens. Rural homes on propane escape for now, but Democrats eye them too. Their endgame is total electrification, total dependence.

Worse still, Democrats eye wood fueled heat as the next enemy. They already restrict wood stoves and fireplaces heavily. In metro areas, only EPA-certified devices allowed, with bans on burn days. Uncertified stoves cannot be sold or installed. Democrats push for tighter rules, viewing wood as dirty despite its renewable nature. They want no off grid options. No backup when their electric grid fails. Wood stoves provide heat without electricity, thwarting Democrat control. Expect more restrictions, more bans in Democrat strongholds. They cannot tolerate independence.

This shutoff tested tolerance for suffering. Democrats probe how much cold and darkness citizens endure before submitting. Condition people to rationing now, and later withhold power for quotas, punishments, or failures of their unreliable system. Coloradans never consented to this. Democrats imposed it through captured regulators and monopolies.

Democrats reveal their authoritarian core. They hate prosperity from affordable energy. They resent self reliant homes. Policies create scarcity to justify more power grabs. Shutoffs are features, not flaws.

Democrats promise utopia. They deliver misery. Blackouts. Skyrocketing bills. Freezing homes. All while patting backs for emissions cuts no one feels but elites.

Reject this Democrat tyranny. Demand reliable baseload. Preserve natural gas choices. Protect wood heat rights. Halt electrification madness. Otherwise, next windstorm brings darkness, and Democrats tighten grip.

Coloradans deserve energy freedom, not Democrat chains. This assault must stop. The party that plunges homes into cold darkness for ideology deserves contempt and defeat.
