Leftist media know that they can lie almost with impunity because even when they are caught lying, the lie has already made its way around the earth and back again.
CBS recently published a “report” that claimed only 14% of illegal aliens captured during ICE arrests were “violent criminals”. Leftists bolted to social media, Substack, and podcasts to bay at the moon. “Only 14%?”. DHS, you lied!”
Katie Couric keeps herself busy with a podcast that few people know exists, and she interviewed Senator Rand Paul. She led with:
“This whole argument about the role of Minneapolis police in this or Minneapolis state officials might be more applicable, Senator, if ICE agents were truly talking about the ‘worst of the worst,’ as the president likes to say,” Couric replied. “Less than 14% of nearly 400,000 immigrants arrested by ICE and President Trump’s first year back in the White House had charges or convictions for violent criminal offenses, according to an internal Department of Homeland Security document obtained by CBS News.”
“So isn’t all this talk about ridding the country of violent criminals a massive overstatement? If less than 14%, again, of the 400,000 immigrants being arrested have charges or convictions for violent criminal offenses?”
“I think there are plenty of non-violent people in prison,” Couric replied.
Do you mean like Somali fraudsters, Katie? Non-violent thieves? Maybe. Since fraudsters (likely) didn’t strong-arm victims. Fraudsters are as common as the street thug who steals a purse. But they often steal a lifetime of savings from the elderly, and those crimes are considered “non-violent” by CBS. In the latter case, an elderly American is left with nothing. But CBS would say that the American grandma wasn’t beaten to a pulp, so Juan the fraudster falls out of the 14%. Whereas the former is the “violent criminal. It’s a canard, and any thinking person knows that.
After a bit of back-and-forth Paul finally got to an “oops” point. He said:
“If your daughter gets raped by the guy that gets back out, and he’s one of the 14%, I don’t think you’re going to quibble about whether it’s 14 or 64,”
Ouch. How did that rake to the face feel, Katie? Pretty violent, methinks.
Paul was correct. 14% of 400,000 is a whole lot of violence. That is 56,000 degenerates who raped, murdered and unleased violence on victims. But 1% is still too much if that 1% raped someone you know.
The 14% was understated by a lot. An awful lot.
And DHS pushed back. In an X post it noted that CBS cooked the numbers by using a false comparative of crimes listed as non-violent and violent. DHS wrote:

So-called “non-violent” offenders include individuals charged with drug trafficking, distribution of child pornography, burglary, fraud, DUI, embezzlement, solicitation of a minor, human smuggling, and more. Labeling these offenses as “non-violent” does not mean they aren’t threats to public safety.
A DUI might not have resulted in “violence” to a person unless, of course, that illegal driving drunk smashes into your car. As illustrated above, CBS labeled “fraud” as non-violent. There’s no physical violence when an online crook steals every dime from your grandmother. I would love to grill Katie Couric and ask her if an illegal alien robbed her mother of every dime she had would she, number 1, consider that a “non-violent” crime, and number 2, would she want that waste of air arrested, imprisoned and then deported?
She might lie and say “No” to both, but in her heart, she knows that that “non-violent” fraud is theft and destroys lives, and families.
Illegals like these wastes of oxygen were not included in the 14%.
Perhaps Katie thinks that distribution of child pornography is harmless because no child was punched in the face or molested by the pornographer doing the distributing. The distributor didn’t rein violence on the child – right Katie?
CBS producers and “journalists” knew that they were cooking the books. They knew that their 14% was vastly understated and that anyone with a working brain would smell the bullshit and rebut it, but they also knew that it wouldn’t matter. The lie would circle the earth before the truth woke up.
A million “Katie Courics” would see “ONLY 14%!!” and run with it.
Although one violent criminal is one too many for me, 56,000 is a pretty good start.
