The year was 1970. A railroad strike by shopcraft workers forced Congress and President Nixon to act. Hearings followed. A thick-necked executive representing the shop union was testifying before a Congressional committee. He was undoubtedly a mob-backed goon, but I didn’t know that. I just saw a smiling guy in a suit. He claimed that he had been swayed to end the strike because he received a letter from a grandmother who (I think) whined that she just wanted to get on her Amtrak to visit her family and a strike would ruin her vacation. I was a young boy, so I bought into his emotional claims and assumed he was telling the truth. Of course, he was lying.
My mom and dad were watching with me. My dad said something like “That never happened”. He explained that the executive was making it up. If he got a letter from “Grandma” about missing her Choo-Choo, it had nothing to do with why trains were back in business.
It was my first taste of watching and remembering emotional blackmail and political bullshitting. Professional lying for the sake of winning support. Propaganda.
In 2026, political propaganda isn’t any more advanced or sophisticated, but it is now amplified by social media. Mobster union goons lying to influence and gain public support have been supplanted by goons in pant suits. Goons like Randi Weingarten. And in Congress, blockheads like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
AOC and some other professional liars were in Munich recently for a “security conference”. That conference is all about world events and.. Security. Any pol appearing and answering questions should be prepared. AOC wasn’t prepared. Or, maybe she was. But she made it clear that she’s as dumb as a bag of rocks.
A few years ago, AOC faked being arrested. She put her hands behind her back, acting like she had been cuffed by the cops. She hadn’t been cuffed. When confronted with facts (and photos) she lied – much like her drama-queening for the camera at the southern border. AOC loves to act like a theater kid and pretend to be aggrieved.

Then, she was asked about our own hemisphere. AOC began by what she thought would increase her gravitas. She “code-switched” into a fake Latino accent. AOC is an amateur at code-switching. No one code-switched more often than Barack Obama. Obama was raised by a white mom and white grandparents. He never met his African dad and never lived in the American south. But you wouldn’t know that, if you ever listened to him talk in a Black church. He morphed into a southern preacher with the affectations of Chicago’s southside. Obama did that constantly.
Code-switching seems to be a common affliction of leftists. This week, AOC picked up Obama’s code-switching baton and ran with it. When the subject of Venezuela’s strongman came up, AOC was rolling her “Ls” like she was her Puerto Rican abuela.
AOC, who has presidential aspirations, used Kamala-like gibberish to explain her Taiwan position then code-switched and claimed that we had no business arresting Maduro because he was a “head of state” of a country “below the equator”. Number 1, Venezuela isn’t “below the equator”. Even if it was why would geography make a difference? Does the invisible line at the equator now have a visible “stop” sign? It’s silliness but on brand for dopes like AOC.
Her stupidity is rivaled only by her hubris
AOC also took a swing at Marco Rubio because he correctly mentioned that Spanish vaqueros were progenitors of American cowboys. You need to watch her smugly claim that Mexico was the birthplace of cowboys and added to the canard with a claim that African slaves also deserve a mention. Her audience mocks along, and seal-claps to her historical idiocy. Horses were brought to the Americas by Spaniards. Mexicans speak Spanish because it was conquered by Spaniards and the horses they rode upon. I don’t recall a single mention of sub-Saharan African slaves bringing horses with them – probably because it never happened.
AOC has no business being in Congress. She should have tended bar for the rest of her adult life. Nonetheless voters in her district have sent her back to Congress three times. She’s a leading voice of Democrats. Kind of on brand
