#1. I was called “his Accidency” because I served as the Vice President for 31 days until the 9 th President died from pneumonia. I served as President from 1841 to 1845. I’m from Virginia, was a member of the Whig party, and was the first Vice- President to ascend to the presidency upon the death of a president. In 1842 my wife became the first, First Lady to die in the White House. In 1844 I married a wealthy New York lady who was 30 years younger than myself making me the first President to marry while in office. I had 7 children with my second wife and 8 with my first making me the President who fathered the most children in history. My presidential accomplishments, include signing the bill that annexed Texas, are overshadowed by my loyalty to the Confederacy. Once war broke out between the North and South, I voted in favor of Virginia seceding from the Union. In 1862 I was elected to the Confederate House of Representatives but died before I officially take my seat. This President had a lot of ‘firsts’ – we leave it to you to decide if they are good or bad ‘firsts.’
